Review

ArcRail is a simulation game with the purpose of driving a train engine from a start station to a terminal station, where the player must observe all the directives, follow the signals indications during the trips and control the train, without getting any point penalty, neither get involved in an accident.

Score depends on how the engineer drives the train, and penalties are applied whenever the driver goes faster than the speed limit shown in a signal or a stop signal is passed over.

The driver has only two buttons for controling the train: brake and engine. The driver interface, simulating the front view from an engine, shows on the left the brake scale: Neutral, 7 to 1. On the right side the engine scale: 0 to 5 (maximum power). On the botton the game shows three speed lectures: actual speed in white, speed limit in green, and speed warning or suggested in yellow.

If the driver increases the train speed over the legal speed limit, the display will turn to red.

The right display warns the driver about the coming signals and suggest the speed to apply.

The game/simulator comes with three different kinds of locomotive: Diesel Automatic, Diesel Electric and Steam with their own appropriated realistic sound generated by the buil-in sound generator.
Advantages
  • Good driving simulation.
Disadvantages
  • Very simple graphics.
